1: Wake Up Aria

Review:

There are some videos that you look back on and have absolutely no memory how you ended up with it in the first place. Wake Up Aria is definitely one of those videos.

There is nothing of interest in this video unless you are really looking for something in the extremely narrow "Japanese adult animation set on a tropical island at a music school for girls" market. The animation quality is poor, the voice acting sounds like it was recorded over the phone, and the story makes absolutely no sense. Even the sex, for an adult video, is bad. Save your money, there is better out there.

Volume 1: "Wake Up Aria" Plot Summary:

Normally, it is the policy of Omoshiroi Anime not to provide a synopsis of adult entertainment videos to protect those visitors who may be underage but this one is so bad it needs to be told (without the adult content, of course).

Here it is, in a nutshell...

Aria is going to a girl's music school on Golden Breast Island (Isn't the name a clue that this is not Julliard?) She meets her classmates and reveals to her roommate that her dad was a ninja and mom a member of Russian Royalty (What? Don't ask...they're not going to explain it).

Aria is being pursued by a relentless suitor named Isugo who plays the guitar (Very important...not the boy, the guitar.).

Soon enough the girls are being called to the Principal's office for "private lessons" (wink, wink). Finally, it is Aria's turn.

It then dawns on her what is going on, and she confronts the teacher. But wait, the teacher (and his sister) aren't the real teachers after all. The real instructors are locked up in the basement (along with the annoying Isugo).

So who's in the room with Aria? Tentacle fingered aliens, of course!! (What? You didn't know that the reason aliens come to Earth is to ravish all of our young, promising ninja/Russian Royalty musicians? Where have you been?) Now it is up to Aria defeat the nasty aliens.

To do this, she calls on the hidden powers she got from her mother, the witch. (Sorry, forget to mention that earlier. I just assumed that everyone already knew that all the members of the Russian Royalty were also witches.) Aria counters the tentacle aliens with strands of her hair and, together with her classmate (who also seem to have picked up the hair trick), they lasso the aliens.

She then finishes them off by playing few licks on the guitar (See. I told you that the guitar was important. If Will Smith had known this in the movie Independence Day, he could have prevented much of planet from becoming a wasteland.)

The video seems to end there, as the credits begin to roll (Thank God!!) but if you sit through to the end, you'll see that a small tentacle survived and makes its way towards the now free school mistress. She turns to the camera and gives it a knowing look. Does this mean we should expect a Wake Up Aria 2? (I certainly hope not!! I am not sure that I could survive another minute - forget 30 - of this dreck.)
