Review:

A mediocre example of the bumbling guy and the girl next door genre, VirtuaCall, based on the dating sim game of the same name, is nothing that hasn't been seen before.

The quality is middle of the pack and characters are stock, right-of-the-shelf creations. Coloring and pacing are nothing to write home about either. Unfortunately, the game has better graphics than the video. All in all, you are better off playing the game than spending the time watching this one.

Volume 1: "Primary File" Plot Summary:

Being based on a video game, the plot of VirtuaCall is simple and thin. Emily is the daughter of the landlords of a Tokyo apartment building. She has a crush on one of the tenants; a fourth-year college student called Hasegawa Kunihiko. But Hasegawa, besides being inexperienced, shy, and clueless, has a crush on another girl, Suzume.

Things slip into the realm of the strange when Emily and her friend Hitomi decide to use a device called the VirtuaCall virtual reality system to "educate" Hasegawa. They set him up with another girl, Sayoko, and they discover the joys of cyberspace together.

But simultaneously, Emily receives a visitor, Majhana, who is an emissary from the country of Welfenland. She informs her highness, Emily that since she has reached her eighteenth birthday, it is now time for her to return home and assume her position as ruler.

Now that all the parts are in place, the questions that remain are: Will Emily win the heart and affections of Hasegawa before she has to leave forever? Will Hasegawa be able to drum up the courage to confess his love to Suzume? And when will Hasegawa answer the clue phone and realize that Emily is there waiting for him? ?
