Based on a story by Hayao Miyazaki, this is a delightful and enchanting tale about a young teenage girl, Haru, who has to find herself after she is swept up in an Alice in Wonderland like adventure. Like almost all of Miyazaki's films (though he did not direct this movie), there is magic (Haru is transformed into a cat-girl at one point), high adventure and a spirit-lifting story about making that sometimes difficult transition from child to adult.
All in all, this is a sweet and wonderful film. Some will grouse at the animation quality, which though not on the level of Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke, it is quite lovely. More likely is that this will become a favorite film of many children and the young at heart.
