Episode 1: The First Gate
The story opens in a remote corner of the Earth where a female explorer is trying to bargain with the Tattoon tribe to learn the secret of their powers. The masked Tattoon representative asks why she should share this knowledge and the women offers anything she has in exchange. The Tattoon warrior declares this unacceptable and strikes at the women. She falls unconscious, and items spill out of her pack. One is of a picture of her family, and the Tattoon leader is drawn to the image of her son.
Cut to Tokyo, where Eric Hibio lives and presently, is shopping for dinner. He is a tough young man with a sizable chip on his shoulder. When the lady shopkeeper snatches the unlit cigarette from his lips, saying "your lungs will thank me later," he responds with some choice (and misogynistic) comments. He strolls away, still grumbling to himself. Above, the shadowy Tattoon warrior observes young Eric and follows him.
Next, Eric comes across two boys who have cornered a young girl beneath a highway overpass. They are moving in "for the kill" when Eric intervenes. He knocks one boy to the ground and the other backs off when he realizes that it is Eric. The girl turns to thank Eric and offers to date him. Eric responds by accusing the girl of getting what she deserves. He then leaves. The two would-be assailants remark, tongue-in-cheek that deep down, Eric is a hopeless romantic. At the sane time, a pretty girl on a bike, wearing glasses, stops and watches Eric as he walks off.
Eric continues home, and dusk has now fallen. He has a lit cigarette in his mouth and still has his chip on his shoulder. Suddenly, a whirlwind forms in the road before him. He raises his arms to shield himself and the cape wearing Tattoon figure appears. Eric curses and tries to throw a punch. The Tattoon warrior easily dodges the blow, leaving Eric holding the cape. Eric looks up to see the very shapely figure of a woman silhouetted against the full moon. She creates a glowing staff to appear from her hand and strikes at Eric. Her blow leaves a "X" on Eric's forehead.
The young woman then kisses Eric on the forehead where she left the mark. While she is doing this, Eric's dad opens the window and sees his son in the passionate embrace. The woman finishes her kiss and announces that in accordance with Tattoon custom, Eric is now her "eternal husband." She then faints into Eric's arm. As she does, a photograph falls from her. It is the same picture that the woman back in the Tattoon homeland had.
Eric takes the girl up into his house and lays her down in the bedroom. He places a wet cloth on her forehead and then joins his dad for dinner. The father remarks on Eric's choice in girlfriends and the size of her chest. Eric does not humor him and instead slaps down the photograph and a videotape and asks him whether he has any idea why the strange girl would have these. His father burst into tears at the sight of the picture and cries out the name "Maureen".
Eric demands his dad to shut up and never mention the name of his mother again because "she died the moment she walked out on us." His father continues to cry over the picture, and Eric comments that she would not have left if his father had not put dirty pictures of her on the Internet. Eric then gets up, kicks his dad over and slips the tape into the VCR.
In the video, Maureen informs Eric of the deal she made with Bala, the Tattoon girl, in which Eric becomes Bala's husband in exchanges for allowing Maureen to study the Tattoon tribe and their customs.
Eric storms away, yelling that his mom sold him out and slides open the door to the bedroom. He finds Bala sitting up, waiting for him. But instead of returning her smile, Eric demands that she gets out of his house. Bala stands her ground and refuses. Eric continues to demand that she must leave and Bala becomes angry. A tattoo appears on her forehead, and an energy field grows around her. Eric tells her to "blow" and she responds by unleashing a blast that nearly destroys the house. Eric then reluctantly agrees to allow her to stay.
The next day, Eric tries to pawn Bala off on his friend, Brody. But, before they can complete the "transaction," they are interrupted by Lisa, the girl with glasses from earlier. This time, she is armed with a bow and when Brody taunts her, she replies by pointing the arrow in his face and saying she is hunting morons. Eric uses the distraction to escape, and Lisa sighs his name as she watches him leave.
Back home, Eric is tackled by Bala as soon as he opens the door. His dad slinks out and offers his waterbed for their use. Eric demands to know what is going on and Bala explains that they can now consummate their marriage. Eric becomes enraged and tells Bala that the deal is between her and his mother and he wants nothing to do with it. In fact, she is not even the type of girl he likes.
They struggle and argue and this leads to the picture that Bala brought with her being torn. Bala cradles the torn picture in her hands and explains that if Eric had rejected her immediately, she would have left quietly. But his actions, in nursing back to health and allowing her to stay with them, showed her that he has a tender and kind heart and she would love him forever. Eric responds that marriage only hurts and causes people to become unhappy. He says that he will never become the guy Bala wants and if she will not leave, then he will. Then Eric leaves the house. Eric spends the night at a friend's house and Bala stays up, staring at the picture.
The next day, Eric heads to school where his buddies try to broach the subject of Bala. Before they can say anything, Lisa appears and accuses Eric of being a woman-hater. It is then that Bala appears in an upper school window and calls out. Eric reacts in shock and watches as Bala leaps out the third floor window. He rushes to catch her and asks why she is here. She answers that she wanted to be close to him. Then Eric realizes that she is wearing a school uniform, which he learns came from his dad's collection.
Bala introduces herself to Eric's friends as his wife and they react in shock. Eric can only moan. Later, in the classroom, his buddies congratulate him on his "babe wife" and tell him that this will put to rest the rumors that Eric is gay. Then Lisa approaches and draws an arrow. She says that she cannot believe that a woman would actually want Eric. This angers Bala, who stands to defend Eric. Lisa prepares to fire and Bala summons her magic. Eric sees this and quickly leaves the room, carrying Bala.
Up on the roof, he commands Bala not to pick fights. Bala responds that she fights anyone that challenges her husband because they become her enemies as well. Eric then explains that Lisa is misunderstood and really is nice under the gruff exterior. This causes Bala to swoon and tell Eric what a nice guy he is. Eric protests that she is wrong and that he is mean, loner outcast. He then takes out his frustrations on Brody and his pal who were eavesdropping.
The scene then shifts to the archery range, where Lisa is practicing. She tries to focus, but Bala's words still ring in her ears. Then, just as she is about to fire, Bala pops up in front of her. Lisa accidentally lets the arrow fly but Bala catches it. Bala then asks Lisa whether they can be friends. Lisa continues to practice as Bala talks. She tells Lisa how Eric spoke so kindly of her and this causes Lisa to miss the target. This continues as Bala continues to probe deeper into Eric's and Lisa's attraction. Finally. Lisa cannot stand anymore, and she challenges Bala to a duel.
The two women return to their homes to prepare for the battle. At Eric's place, Bala tells Eric about the upcoming duel. She explains that Tattoon law requires her to fight to the death after her honor has been questioned. Eric asks whether Bala told Lisa about her powers and Bala answers yes, but Lisa still wanted to fight. Eric then forbids Bala from going to the school the next day. Eric's dad pleads with Eric to change his mind and tape the events for him. Meanwhile, Lisa begs her grandfather to teach her how to shoot at the living. The old man asks whether this is because Lisa has "boy troubles." When she answers yes, the grandfather then says "and all this time I thought you were gay."
The next morning, Eric awakes to realize that Bala has left for the duel. He races out and heads for the school. At the school, Bala and Lisa meet on the range. Lisa lets an arrow fly and Bala barely manages to stop it. Bala then runs and Lisa gives chase. They dash through the school with Lisa releasing volley after volley of arrows. Bala continues to dodge them until she runs down a dead end hallway. Lisa thinks she has her trapped and Bala pleads for them to stop fighting. Lisa refuses to listen. At one point, Bala nearly gives in and begins to use her powers but changes her mind and leaps out the window instead. But, Lisa catches up and manages to pin Bala down using a special arrow. She then draws another special arrow to finish her off, but Eric arrives just in time to block the missile.
Lisa is reminded of the time that caused her to fall in love with Eric by his heroic action. In the flashback, we see Eric help Lisa at time when no one else would. But, because Eric has shunned her and all other girls since, Lisa's anger has grown and become a deep bitterness. When she breaks out of her trance, she draws another arrow and points it at Bala.
Bala admonishes both Eric and Lisa for hiding their true feelings and they protest that Bala has got it wrong. Lisa lets the arrow fly and Bala responds with an energy blast. Eric dashes to protect Lisa and the mark on his forehead becomes a full tattoon tattoo. The blast passes by them, and they stand in amazement. Then Lisa and Eric topple into the trench the blast left behind. Eric demands an answer from Bala who explains that the energy was all of the anger that the three of them had created, and she had simply thrown it away.
Lisa now realizes that she is really in love with Eric and cannot hide further. Bala is happy but still very protective of her husband. Lisa challenges her right to call him her husband, and they begin to argue again. This is where episode one ends.
Episode Two: The Second Gate
Episode two opens with Eric asleep in his bed. The TV is on and his mother is nattering about her latest discovery among the Tattoon people. Eric turns off the television and rolls over to find Bala sleeping next to him. He leaps up in surprise. Bala pops up also, dressed only in her underwear. Eric asks why she is in his bed, and she says that Eric asked for a night of "jungle loving" after dinner. Eric cries that he does not remember any of this and Bala chases him around the room. She manages to corner Eric and then burst out giggling at his expression. She turns to Eric's dad and asks whether he caught it all on tape. He gives the thumbs up. Eric then tossing his dad out the window.
At school, the rivalry between Bala and Lisa is as strong as ever. Lisa becomes annoyed with Bala's chatter and draws her bow. Eric intervenes and then growls at the class to make them stop staring. Later, up on the roof, Bala tries to get Eric to eat lunch with her. But, just as Eric is about to give in, he notices that Lisa is watching them from the stairwell. She has tears running down her face while she clutches two lunches. Eric lets out a groan and wonders aloud how he got himself into this trouble.
Meanwhile, a young man in a pink/purple blouse is seen drinking a can of coffee from a vending machine. He tosses the can in the trash, climbs on his motorcycle and pulls out a picture of two boys. "Where are you, big brother?" he asks. A little girl, walking by with her mom, says "that man is crying, mama." The man then makes a funny face and waves to the girl. He then rides off on his bike.
Back at the school, the day is done and Eric is heading home. But, he doesn't get far before Lisa stops him and reminds him that he has clean up duty with her. Eric sends Bala off and tells her that he will catch up to her at the store. Bala leaves and Eric heads back into the school with Lisa. It is just then that the young man rides up and says "first I must locate the high priestess." He fails to notice that Bala is walking right in front of him. Then two girls come out and tease him about his shirt. But, he is too dense to realize that their complement is actually an insult.
The young man then searches the school. Meanwhile, in the store parking lot, Bala pumps Brody and his friend for info on Eric. They tell the story of their first encounter with Eric, in which Eric beat the crap out of them. Just then, the young motorcyclist arrives and announces that he has been searching for Bala.
Brody and his buddy try to defend Bala but the mysterious young man is too strong for them. Back at the school, Eric collapses and his forehead glows with a bright white light. Lisa asks what is wrong and Eric explains that Bala is in trouble and is calling him. In the parking lot, the two boys have been defeated and Bala rushes to see whether they are all right.
The man introduces himself as Hydra. He explains that he is here in search of and to avenge his brother, Arnold. He tells of how is brother went to the Tattoon tribe and never came back. Bala tries to remember Arnold but can only manage to say that he was tossed out for bad behavior. She then demands to know how Hydra learned to use Tattoon power, and he says that he meant someone who showed while he was seeking his brother. He prepares to unleash a massive attack on Bala but before he can fire, Eric arrives and kicks him to the ground.
Eric and Hydra then rumble but Hydra has the upper hand when he reveals his Tattoon mark and creates a dark force that lifts Eric up into the air. It batters Eric about, and Eric has no idea how to fight back. Bala begins to "power up" and demands that Hydra put Eric down. He complies and allows Eric to fall to the ground. Then they hear the sounds of a police car and Hydra runs away. But, the police siren was just a trick that Lisa played on Hydra.
In the aftermath, Eric tells Lisa to keep her nose out of his business. Lisa retorts that everyone saw Eric get his butt kicked, and he should let Bala fight Hydra. Brody and his buddy agree, and Eric unleashes his pent up anger on them. Bala stands in shock and says to herself, "I don't think I am the only one."
Hydra, meanwhile, meets up with a redheaded girl and tells her of Eric and Bala. She comments that Bala must have a boyfriend. She then returns to selling homemade jewelry on the sidewalk while Hydra cries out for revenge. The scene then shifts to a little fan service, with Bala taking a bath.
After she finishes, she goes to Eric. Eric comments that it was not nice of the Tattoon people to kill Hydra's brother. Bala explains that they did not kill him but granted his request to be released from his body. She tells Eric that Hydra's brother just simply doesn't exist anymore. Eric says that he just can't understand Bala sometimes. He then begins to talk about how everyone thinks he can't defeat Hydra.
Bala answers his fears by giving him a kiss on the forehead and explains that she heard the story about how he defended Brody and his friend from the football players. She tells Eric that she believes in him and knows that he will defeat Hydra. But, their quiet moment is ruined by Eric's dad, who cannot resist filming them. Eric tosses him out the window again.
The next morning finds Hydra encountering Eric and Bala meeting up with first a strange woman with green hair and then her sister, Kandar, who has a grudge against Bala. Kandar launches an attack on Bala that knocks into traffic and nearly gets her run over. Kandar announces her intentions to defeat Bala and make her pay for being Father's favorite and allowing her to be banished from the tribe for practicing dark magic.
The action then shifts to Hydra and Eric. Eric is not faring well against Hydra's dark shadow attack and while down, Eric remembers Bala's warning. She tells him that the dark shadows are the most powerful of the all the magic and anyone who has fought them has been horribly defeated. But then, strangely enough, she says "I know you will do fine."
The fights rage on and it seems that both Eric and Bala will lose. But at the darkest moment, Eric remembers Bala's faith in him and he draws on that to release his own power. This, in turn, triggers Bala's powers and she quickly defeats Kandar. Eric then defeats Hydra. As they both, Eric and Hydra, sit exhausted, the green haired woman comes running up. "Little brother." she cries. She reveals that she is actually Arnold, who had gone to the Tattoons to ask them to free him from his male body. Hydra cannot get over the shock and the two fall into a cat and mouse game of denials.
In the end, Eric meets up with Bala outside the school where he tells her thanks for being the one who believed in him. She tells Eric that they make a good team, and then she holds onto him till he tells her that he loves her. He does and in her excitement, she leaps on Eric, giving him a bear hug. This is where the episode, video end.
