Someday's Dreamers could be described as Myst meets Harry Potter with a healthy dose of Judy Blume tossed in. A gorgeously drawn anime with a slow but carefully crafted pace, Someday's Dreamers is a welcome break from the crazy antics, explosions, and angst that so many other anime series offer. You could think of it as the peaceful little garden that you take a rest in while visiting that hyperactive amusement park called anime.

It's a simple story about a gentle 17 year old girl called Yume who has come to the big city, Tokyo, for the first time to prepare for mage certification. You will find yourself more intrigued about the lives of characters than the events that move the plot along. But for those who want more than great dialogue and characters, there is plenty of mystery developing in the background as well.

But, the real strength of this series is in the craftsmanship. J.C. Staff has been perfecting their soft, watercolor-style animation for a while now with series such as His and Her Circumstances and Ai Yori Aoshi but it has never looked better. The colors, line quality and animation are simply breathtaking. Adding to the atmosphere is a lovely piano-driven score that immerses the viewer in a rich aural world.

Overall, this will be a series that will find many fans but there will be those that cannot bear the slow developing story and the lack of action-driven tension. Share this one with your sensitive friends and you might want to hide it when the Dragonball Z fanatics drop by.

Volume 1: "Magical Dreamer" Plot Summary:

In this first volume, Yume Kikuchi, a 17 year old high school junior, arrives in Tokyo to begin her month-long mage training. It's her first time to the big city and her first formal training as a mage, so she is more than a bit nervous.

Over the next few weeks, she will face new challenges. From meeting her fellow mage trainees to learning how to use her power responsibly, she has a lot on her plate. But with the gently guidance of her teacher, Masami, his assistant Kera and Yume's good nature and kind heart, it looks like things just might turn out okay - if the Bureau of Mage Labors doesn't catch her first.
