Review:

What would you do if you suddenly found yourself "married" to a mysterious girl (who claims to be an angel) and her family (who are all monsters) moved in with you? To find out, just drop in on poor Yuusuke, your typical Japanese high school student who has become the center of a comedy storm.

I'm Gonna Be An Angel could be described as an animated version of the old TV series "The Munsters" but it is much more fun. Filled with delightfully creative monsters and situations, I'm Gonna Be An Angel is as joyful as it's bouncy, smile-inducing theme song. It's a winner.

Volume 1: "Earth Angel" Plot Summary:

In the first episode we meet Yuusuke, a high school boy who is beginning his first day of living alone (his parents are working overseas). As he races to school on his bicycle, he stumbles upon, literally, a naked girl in the forest.

Not before long, he finds himself with a "wife" (the aforementioned naked girl) and a new house, complete with house mates in the form of his "wife's" family. Nobody said living on your own was easy!

The second episode covers Yuusuke's second day in his new chaotic life. His house is still overrun with Noelle's crazy monster family and now Natsumi, the girl he has had a secret crush on, thinks he is a pervert! And let's not forget about the giant inflatable wrestler.

In the third episode, things go from strange to absurd when Noelle decides that she will become Yuusuke's angel. Following her Granny's advice, Noelle swears off all squeezing and poking of Yuusuke and, with a little help from one of Lucca's outlandish contraptions, it just might happen. Adding to the mix, if an out-of-control Noelle is not enough, is the appearance of the demon cat girl, Miruru. Me-ow!

The fourth episode finds poor Yuusuke suffering from a cold. Unfortunately, colds are not a common thing in the monster world and the family has all sorts of unusual ideas regarding the mysterious disease. Can Yuusuke survive the cure?

In the fifth, and final, episode of this volume, Noelle, Yuusuke, and the family head to beach. There they encounter kidnapping aliens, see Noelle's sister Sara for the first time, and discover Mom's overwhelming obsession with round objects. Is a pineapple round?r
