A wacky adventure that seems to attempt to both be an idol anime and a satire of an idol anime, Idol Project is silly - but isn't that the point?
Mimu, a fourteen year girl with dreams of becoming the greatest idol ever, simply wants to audition for the idol competition but instead finds herself caught up in an intergalactic competition to become the Sun Idol for the resort planet of BaliHawaii.
A wacky competition that fills the screen with aliens, bikinis, and aliens in bikinis follows and the hijinks are funny though sometimes quite predictable.
Idol Project is a hour of laughs and craziness that the right people are going to throughly enjoy.
Volume 1: "Starland Festival" Plot Summary:
The first episode introduces us to Mimu, a young fourteen-year girl with a dream to become the next top idol. In her world, idols can rise to become world president and are selected through a contest held at the Crystal Hall. On the morning of the big competition, Mimu races to get to the hall but keeps getting delayed as she encounters each of the six reigning idols. She barely makes it to the audition only to have it cut short by the appearance of three huge monsters that snatch her and other idols up and whisks them of to another dimension. Will poor Mimu ever get to sing her song?
The second episode finds the six Excellent Idols plus hopeful Mimu arriving at the strange but beautiful resort world of BaliHawaii - the only world with a sun at it's center. The girls have been brought here to compete in the Sun Festival. The winner gets to sing the birth song that will cause a new sun to burn at the planet's center and that sun will be named after the lucky winner. But, first they have to survive some of the wackiest races ever seen. Who will the lucky winner? Or is it better to call them the lucky survivor?
