Review:

Gestalt is nearly perfect - as a formulaic anime. It has all of the right parts but somehow they never quite add up to greatness. The video introduces us to a number of likable characters and sets up a plausible (for this genre of anime) story.

Unfortunately, we have heard this tale before. Everyone know that the hero and the heroine are going to solve the mystery and that they are never really in danger of losing the big fight. It is this lack of tension that is Gestalt's Achilles heel.

But the animation, one of the earliest attempts at an all-digital anime (meaning coloring and special effects done digitally) is crisp and clean. The character designs is nicely done as well. The music, though, is forgettable.Gestalt has it moments but in the long run, the Darwinian process of survival of the fittest for the anime world allowed wisely lets this one go extinct.

Volume 1: "Volume 1" Plot Summary:

Olivier is a priest in a vague Renaissance world of magic. He is passionately devout and troubled by the visions he has been having about a place called "G". He decides the only solution is to go there and discover whatever is calling him.

Along the way, he encounters a pretty young girl called Ohri. Through a quirk of fate, she ends up his slave and the twosome join in the quest for "G".

But, they are dogged by trouble. The head priest of Olivier's order has sent a Dark Elf to bring him back while Ohri has a secret and a secret agendum that keeps attracting powerful enemies.

Will they manage to discover the secret of "G" before time and luck run out for them?
