An interesting mix of comedy, demon fighting and just a little sexual titilation, the Devil Hunter series has it merits. The characters are reasonable well defined and drawn. The fighting sequences are very well paced and shows the skill of Madhouse Studios (also responsible for Ninja Scroll and Perfect Blue, among other) in dealing with action scenes. Coloring and background are slightly better than average for the genre. All in all, a job well done.
Volume 1: "Collection One" Plot Summary:
Yohko Mano is just your ordinary teenage high school girl. She dashes to reach the same place every morning to sneek a peek at a boy she likes and dreams of the perfect romance (and the steamy events that it would involve). But one day strange things begin to happen. Shy boys suddenly become casanovas and swimming pools try to drown her. Soon, just as Yohko is on the verge of finally "scoring" with a boy, her grandma crashes (literally) the party. Grandma, it seems, is the 107th devil hunter in the Mano line and now it's time to past the sword onto the 108th, Yohko.
