Episode 1: The Awakening
In a wind-swept desert, a deep, authoritative voice calls out "Awake, Babel the second. Awake and claim your destiny." The wind picks up and the sky fills with flying sand. Then Koichi awakes. It has been a dream, but a dream that the young high school boy has had before. "Why do I keep hearing that voice?", he asks himself.
The next day, Koichi is reading in a bookstore when two of his schoolmates approach him. They invite him to leave the studying behind and join them in trying out a new game at the local arcade. But as they speak, Koichi hears the voice of a women in his head asking him who he is. "Did you hear that?", he asks his chums. "No", they reply. Then they tease Koichi about the girl's voice because they already knew about the voice from his dreams that calls out "Babel" to Koichi. The two boys then leave Koichi.
Koichi leaves as well, getting on his bike and heading down a busy street. As he pedals, he ponders if another world, one that only exists in our thoughts, could be real. It is then that he hears the girl's voice once more and he quickly comes to a stop. Across the busy road, he spies a cute girl with big eyes and pink hair sitting on the guardrail.
"Are you the one who has been calling me?", asks Koichi from his side of the highway. "I am". she replies. "But how can we be talking like this and why doesn't everyone hear you?", he asks in return. "That's because we are psychics", she answers. But before Koichi can ask another question, a truck comes careening down the street with a police car in hot pursuit. When the two pass, the girl is gone.
The truck and the police car battle back and forth, crashing into each other as the police vehicle attempts to pass the truck and stop it. Finally, the cop car squeezes by and forces the truck to stop. The back of the truck opens and containers tumble out. Some burst open and human limbs (arms, hands, feet, etc) spill out. The gathered crowd gasps and the female officer runs to the cab of the truck and orders the driver to freeze.
But the driver activates a remote that he has hidden in his hand behind his back and causes all of the canisters to disintegrate. During the distraction, the driver escapes by making super-human leaps that quickly carry him up to the roof of a nearby building. Koichi watches all of the proceeding and comments with cool amazement that he did not know that people could leap so high.
The driver jumps his way to a parking lot and stops, confident that he has made a clean getaway. But a gunshot that knocks his sunglasses off lets him know that the female officer has followed him. "Make another move and blow your head off", she warns the man. But before she can do anything, the man erupts in flame and is completely destroyed. The officer spins around to find the girl Koichi was talking to and another man standing on top of a high chain-link fence. The two then quickly leap away.
At the same moment, Koichi comes riding up and spies the girl being lead by the man. They shoot each other looks of recognition but neither call out or stop. After the girl has past, Koichi spies something sparkling on the ground and reaches down to pick it up. As soon as he comes in contact with it, he is overcome with a vision of a warehouse. He then packs the medallion into a pocket and heads off. From the shadows, the female officer, who observed the encounter, comments that the boy must be somehow involved.
Meanwhile, the man and the girl, who's name is Juju, talk in the car. Juju first asks why the driver had to die and the man replies that he had orders not to allow their operation to be discovered or interrupted. The man then asks about Koichi and Juju tells him that Koichi is a psychic just like them. The man tells her that she must be mistaken because he did not sense anything and Juju replies that Koichi has great powers. The man does not acknowledge the last remark and turns the car into the gate of the warehouse that Koichi saw in his vision.
Koichi quickly arrives at the warehouse and slips in over the fence. He approaches the building and is captured by two men who look just like the driver. They bring him inside and walk him towards the back of the building. But Koichi breaks free and runs. He eludes the two men and dashes through a large door only to discover a chamber filled with huge tubes containing still-developing clones. Juju and the man, plus some more guards, are also in the room. "Why are you here?", asks the man. "The girl dropped her pendant", Koichi answers. "I knew you would be able to find me.", Juju tells Koichi as she recovers her pendant. "I want to take this boy to the master", she tells the man.
"First, I will test him", the man tells Juju and then he begins to glow. Koichi runs but finds he has nowhere to hide. The man launches psychic attacks on Koichi and pins him up against the door. But as the attacks grow nearer, Koichi goes into a trance, hears the voice from his dreams and lets loose with a primal scream, As he yells, a massive wave of energy is released from his body, not only destroying the warehouse but much of the city around it as well. All of this is observed by the policewomen, who followed Koichi in her car.
The next day, at the hospital, Koichi replays the events in his mind but still can not make heads or tails of what happened. A knock is heard on the door and in enter the policewoman and her boss. The woman introduces herself as Yuko and proceeds to question Koichi. They tell Koichi that they believe the people her encountered where a gang calling themselves "The Psychics" and where conducting experiments in human reconstruction. They then leave.
Later that night, Juju appears in Koichi's room and invites him to join them. Koichi refuses, citing the visit from Yuko, on the grounds that Juju's gang is up to no go. Juju accuses Yuko and her organization of being the deceptive ones and to reinforce that image, Yuko comes bursting in with gun drawn. Juju leaps out the window with Koichi and escapes.
As they race towards the ocean in a speedboat, Juju tells Koichi that he is free to leave at anytime. Koichi acknowledges her but chooses to stay. They arrive at a large freighter and board. Juju leads Koichi before the Master and the Master attempts to read Koichi's mind. But Koichi is reluctant to trust him. The Master then orders Juju to take Koichi to his room and make him comfortable. The Master then calls Wong, the man that Juju works with, from the shadows. He tells Wong that Koichi is dangerous and must die.
Up on deck, Koichi has doubts about his freedom and tells Juju so. Juju defends her people and replies that Koichi is free to leave but that he should also be aware that he does not want "The Psychics" as his enemy. Koichi then leaps down a deck and heads to leave.
On the main deck, Koichi encounters Wong. Wong tells Koichi that he is here to deliver a message from the Master and then Wong attacks. His psychic fire completely engulfs Koichi. Wong approaches Koichi motionless and charred body and kicks it with his foot. Suddenly, a black form appears from Koichi's body and swallows Wong. Wong breaks free and the black shape forms into a panther-like beast. Then two more monster appears. One is a giant flying creature that looks kinda like an furry orange, flying Godzilla and the other is a huge robot with a vaguely Egyptian appearance. All three attack the ship and Koichi recalls seeing them in his dreams. He then leaves with them after they disable the ship. "Remarkable:, says the Master as he watches Koichi and creatures leave. "He must be the one the prophecy speaks of", he tells Juju. "He must be Babel the Second".
The episode ends with the beasts carrying Koichi to the Tower of Babel. As he flys over his house, he tells his parents goodbye; he has accepted his destiny. The creatures leave him at the base of the tower, which appears as a stone structure on the outside but contains a futuristic interior. Once inside, the entire space erupts with colored lights and the voice from his dream speaks and welcomes the "chosen one -- Babel the Second".
