Episode 1: Operation 1: The First Spiral
The story opens with an astronaut recovering a mysterious object from a wreck in space. The object is brought back to Earth where the General and a enigmatic figure called Saint watch it land from a military command center in the Pentagon. They discuss how they will study the object and make preparations to send it to special hospital.
Meanwhile, the title character, Nanako, is busy making breakfast - grilling fish and cutting vegetables. But things go south when she dumps the entire contents of a pepper shaker into the soup she is making. In a series of pratfalls, she manages to burn her arm, break the plates and set the kitchen on fire. She then heads upstairs to inform Dr. Kuron and Komanechi, two boarders, that breakfast (now changed to ham and eggs) is ready.
There is no love lost between Kuron and Komanechi and Nanako finds herself caught between the crossfire as the two lobby missiles and other objects at each other. It is then that Nanako realizes that Dr. Ogami is missing.
After breakfast, Nanako dashes across the military base on her scooter with a bagful of lunch items on her way to the Ogami General Hospital. Along the way, the (male) soldiers warmly welcome her (and admire her very considerable female assets).
Nanako arrives at the hospital to find Saint and a large military contingent waiting. She manages to trip and spills the bag's contents (and herself) all over the lobby. Saint is intrigued to learn that she is "the Nanako" and begins to question her when Dr. Ogami enters. He apologizes for his tardiness but explains that additional time was required to prepare for the patient's arrival. He tells Nanako that they will operating in "Room G" at 10 pm tonight.
At first, Nanako believes that she will be the subject and the doctor teases here by saying (as he uses his pen as a scalpel), "First, we will removes these breasts. Next, we will cut open the abdomen and then the...and so on." He then tells Nanako that she is to report to the operation room only after she completes her training. Nanako protests that she has a cold but the doctor cuts her no slack.
Down in the lab, the mysterious object, now Dr. Ogami's patient and called "Green", turns out to be the body of an alien recovered from space by the astronauts. Saint represents "the church" (thought no specific religion is mentioned) and is also representing the military. Dr. Ogami examines the body and deduces that it has many of the same features as a human's but contains a third DNA strand giving it a "tri-helix DNA".
Outside, Nanako is does pull-ups while wearing a belt that keeps count and punishes her for not completing an exercise. Meanwhile, the camera lingers on her abnormally large chest and watches it jiggle as she moves up and down.
Back in the lab, "Green" revives and mutates. The soldiers panic and fire at the blob. It responds by smashing the glass and killing the men. In the middle of all of this, Nanako enters and ends up being engulfed by the monster. Inside of Green, she begins to sneeze from her cold. This infects and weakens the alien. Dr. Ogami uses it as an opportunity to both save Nanako and destroys the alien.
With the excitement over, Saint requests a detailed report and leaves. The next morning, Nanako awakes to find herself in a sickbed with a small bag of ice on her forehead. The doctor is seated nearby working on his notes. She is pleased that the doctor nursed her though the night and smiles happily. The doctor is aware that Nanako is watching him and finishes his entry. But the notes are not about the monster, they are about Nanako and reads cryptically, "8:00am - Subject running a fever. Colds can lead to other infections". Ogami then leaves and the episode ends.
Episode 2: Operation 2: Memories of You
The story opens with a prologue that has Dr. Ogami diving in a lake. Beneath its calm surface, there are submerged buildings which are revealed to be the laboratories of his Grandfather. While down there, Ogami finds a safe. Meanwhile, the military is still watching Ogami's every move and is curious why the doctor has chosen this place to take a "vacation."
Then the opening credits run. Scored with dramatic, tension-filled music and images of scientist appearing to be in some sort of cloning experiment, it provides the viewer a further glimpse into the mysterious past of Nanako and Doctor Ogami.
Following the credits, Mr. Genki (literally translates as Mr. Healthy) leads Nanako's exercises. They start with "Hindu squats" and finish with standing mediation beneath a rushing waterfall. Of course, Nanako takes considerable abuse. Dr. Kuron is also along on the trip and spends his time trying to catch the evening's meal from the lake.
Later, Nanako grills the fish by the fireside. She praises Dr. Kuron for his fishing skills, failing to notice the shopping bag on the ground in front of him. Dr. Ogami appears and berates Nanako for not completing her exercises. He then tells Nanako not to burn dinner. Flustered, Nanako reaches in to remove a fish but ends up tossing the hot fish onto the forehead of Mr. Genki. She then draws the ire of Dr. Ogami by forgetting the Daikon radish.
This all brings Nanako to her breaking point and she runs away after dinner. The others do not notice, having assumed she went to bed. Not before long, she finds herself lost in the woods.
Meanwhile, Doctor Ogami flips through an old photo album he recovered from the lake's bottom. In it are images of his grandfather, a young Dr. Kuron and Nanako. Mysteriously, Nanako appears to be the same age as she is now, though the caption on the photo says "1936". There are also images of Nanako holding a small baby from 1941. All of these images trigger memories in Dr. Ogami, who recalls (via sepia-toned flashbacks) Nanako from his childhood and how she promised (with a much more mature and adult voice) that she will always be there for him. There is also a brief scene in which Saint and Cross talk in a hallway at the Vatican. After Cross leaves, an old man dressed as monk, appears and asks to discuss Nanako. It is while Ogami flicks through the album that Dr. Kuron and Mr. Genki enter and announce that Nanako has run away. The three leave immediately to find her.
Meanwhile, Nanako has been trying to light a fire but with little success. She is comforted, though, by her most prized possession; a small toy that Dr. Ogami gave her. As Nanako tries to light the fire with her last match, she suddenly finds herself being chased by a huge bear.
During all of this, Dr. Ogami and the others go to the (supposedly) secret campsite of the military observer who has been spying on them. They wake the pilot and tell him to fly them in his helicopter. They quickly track down Nanako, who has been treed by the bear. Dr. Ogami commands Nanako to jump off the tree but she refuses. Mr. Genki then leaps from the chopper and kicks the bear off the tree. He lands safely on the ground but the kick has caused the tree to break free of the ground and plummet towards the lake below. Nanako clings to the tree until the doctor comes swooping down, hanging onto the skids of helicopter and scoops up Nanako.
Back in camp, Nanako is given a hot bath. Dr. Kuron worries that she might have caught a cold but Nanako reassures him that her body is fine. Dr. Ogami approaches and reveals that he has recovered Nanako's prized doll. He then reveals to her that it is actually a tracking device and recorder as well. After playing back Nanako's comments about the doctor, Nanako flees (in the buff!) and the doctor gives chase.
While this chase is on, Saint and mysterious monk express amazement that so many "agencies" are interested in Nanako. The monk does not explain but offers a toast to his "Venus" and to the gates of Sodom. The two men then drink. This is where the episode and video end.
