Q: Why is my favorite title not in the database?
The Omoshiroi Anime database contains only titles released in America that have been received or purchased by Omoshiroi Anime. Although our collection is extensive, it does not include every title created or released.
Q: Why can’t I find my favorite title in the database? How can I do an advanced search?
Searches at Omoshiroi Anime are pretty simple but there are a few rules...
- Spelling is very important. If you are unsure on how to spell a title’s name, then just enter the first letter (or as much as you are sure you know) and choose from the list will be displayed.
- Use our Title List - This list displays all of the titles currently in our database. Click on any title to view it.
- If you don’t know the name but you do know some particular identifying characteristic, then use the Advanced Search page. For example, if you are trying to find a particular anime that was set in the future (category = sci-fi) and was a movie (type = movies), select that criteria on the advanced search and submit. We will present you a list of likely matches.
- Or you can try a Subject Search. This is a very broad search that uses the synopsis in each entry to attempt to locate matches to your request. Results will vary based on the terms you use and whether if a synopsis has been entered yet.
Q: What criteria is used rate (or categorize) anime?
All anime is separated into 7 different categories (Action/Adventure, Adult Content, Comedy, Drama, Horror, Science Fiction, Fantasy). If a particular anime could be considered to be in one or more categories, the more pronounced genre is selected.
For example: the series Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU could be consider an action/adventure anime or a comedy anime. It is listed as a comedy because the story, direction, and drawing style emphasize the comedy more than the action.
Our ratings are based on an evaluation and comparison of the anime in question in relation to similar animes in the same category. Content ratings are based on the ratings given by the American Producer, when provided.
Q: What is the difference between cartoon violence and graphic violence?
Cartoon violence is generally slapstick and does not draw blood or kill. Graphic violence are acts that kill, main, harm or depict blood.
Q: What is the difference between mild language and strong language?
Mild language is the sort where a character may call another "dummy" or "stupid". There are no curse words used. Strong language includes curse words, sexually explicit talk or threatening speech.
Q: What is the difference between an OAV, a series and a movie?
OAVs are direct to video productions. They generally are either alternate/additional storylines to popular series, pilots or one-shot affairs. Series are anime that were shown on Japanese television. Movies are animes created for theatrical release.
Q: What is Hentai?
The word "hentai" is generally translated as "perversion" in English. In anime, it refers to "adult entertainment" videos. These are definitely not for children!!
